Pete Arvedson is a high school science teacher in La Puente,east of Los Angeles. In 2004, he was honored by the National Society of High School Scholars.
Anne Marie Bergen is a district science teacher and coordinator for Oakdale Joint Unified School District. She was named California’s Teacher of the Year in 2003 and received the 2006 Amgen Award for Science Teaching Excellence.
Janet English is currently serving as Director of Educational Services at KOCE-TV, PBS while on leave from her middle school science classroom. She received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching in 2003 and is currently serving as Vice Chair of the Council.
Sandie Gilliam retired in June from the high school mathematics classroom after 32 years. She is a National Board Certified Teacher and received the 2000 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching.
Javier González is a high school math teacher at Pioneer High School in Whittier. He was named California’s Teacher of the Year in 1996 and previously served as a member of the National Teacher Advisory Council.
Stan Hitomi is the math and science coordinator for the San Ramon Valley School District. Previously, he had been the executive director of the Edward Teller Education Center at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and was also a high school science teacher for more than twenty years. He is serving as Chair of the Council.
Juliana Jones is a middle school math teacher in Berkeley. She is National Board Certified, member of the National Teacher Advisory Council, and was named Alameda - Contra Costa County Teacher of the Year in 2005.
Suzanne Nakashima is an elementary teacher in Yuba City. She is National Board Certified and serves as the teacher liaison for the California Science Project. She was named Outstanding Elementary Science Teacher for the Sacramento Area in 1994.
Susan Pritchard is a middle school science teacher in La Habra. She is National Board Certified and won Orange County’s “Vision for Excellence Award” in 2005.
Barbara Shannon is the Co-founder and Co-director of Synergy Kinetic Academy, a new middle school serving students from South Los Angeles. Before becoming an administrator, she taught science for over twenty years.
Mark Stefanski is a high school science teacher at Marina Academy, a private school in San Rafael. He is also a consultant for the San Francisco Unified School District, providing science professional development to teachers and AP test prep sessions for students.
Katrina Williams is an elementary school teacher in Fresno. She won the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching in 2004.
