Strengthening
teacher quality through regional K-18 data-driven collaboration
The primary goal of the Teacher Development Regional Database
Collaborative (TDRDC) is to strengthen Californias teacher
workforce through regional, data-driven collaborations among
K-18 educational institutions. This strategy focuses on the
distinctly regional characteristics that differ markedly across
the state; and can best be addressed through local level cooperation
between and among school districts, county offices of education
and institutions of higher education. As a model, the Teacher
Development Regional Database Collaborative is a highly effective
and cost efficient vehicle for change.
A primary objective of the strategy is to help regional leaders
build and maintain a data-driven teacher workforce decision-making
system that:
- facilitates the collection and analysis of current-year
research;
- illuminates teacher workforce issues; and
- develops and maintains an ongoing capacity to address
teacher supply and demand and the quality of the teacher
workforce.
The TDRDC strategy also includes a strong evaluation component
to capture lessons learned from this initiative that can inform
other education partnerships.
To date, the Center has sponsored two Teacher Development Regional
Database Collaboratives in California: the Kern County
Initiative for Recruiting, Preparing and Retaining Highly
Qualified and Effective Teachers and the Teacher Workforce
Initiative in the tri-county region of Monterey, San Benito
and Santa Cruz Counties. For additional information
